Aurality

Aurality: The Eternal Music Machine

The Eternal Music Machine composition series is based on our research on the harmonic space, the vibrational affects and percepts enabled by tonal relations. The series originated in both our practice of Dhrupad singing and our research on early american minimalism.

Aurality: Earth Loop

An extended period of “forced isolation“ out in rural Brazil within the healthy and dense aural fabric - a mixture of rainforest / dry land / small farming pastures, together with the line step-down transformer outside the house humming at 60Hz all the way down to the walls of our stripped down studio, provides the setup for a fine encounter between experimental electronics, field recordings and harmonic space, in shape of a dream-like journey through a tropical post-apocalyptic Electric Ladyland.

Recorded between March and June 2020 at and in the surroundings of the Fazendinha (« Little Farm »), one hour off Belo Horizonte, district of Brumadinho, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Ambient counterpart to Aurality: Earth Loop, still at the crossroad between harmonic space, experimental electronics and field recordings, Aurality: -20.179... elaborates on The Eternal Music Machine compositions through the lens of a variety of audio processing techniques, in particular Time Lag Accumulation, a tape looping technique developed by Terry Riley and Pauline Oliveros in their late 1960s performances.

Recorded between March and June 2020 at and in the surroundings of the Fazendinha (« Little Farm »), one hour off Belo Horizonte, district of Brumadinho, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
